Well I made an [censored] out of myself

Last night, I went to Bonterra to eat with some friends. I had been working out really hard lately to get in better shape to play tennis this summer. Well, I had cut back on carbs, went in there and ordered one of the big southwest ribeyes. It was good, everything was fine and I had 2 mix drinks with it. All of the sudden, I start getting that tingly sensation that all diabetic/hypoglycemic people get when we are ready to leave. I got up and walked out the door, next thing I know Im waking up from blacking out outside of Bonterra. I have a big ol' black eye from scrapping my face on the concrete. Even this morning, Im shakey as can be. My mom is diabetic so she took my blood sugar when I got home. It was like 74 which is pretty low I think(correct me if Im wrong Ironlung). I loaded up on carbs and some sugar this morning, but its going to be awhile before it comes up. I had always known in the past that my sugar bottoms out when I drink but that was always my queue to just stop drinking and it happend few and far between(Im serious I could drink 1 or 2 beers and get the feeling). This time though, my sugar dropped too rapidly and I got to make an arse out of myself. Im just glad that I wasnt drunk or anything like that last night, or I believe I would go crawl in a hole. Even if I hadnt drank, I would have still been sick, but I would have been able to make it to the car I think to let someone drive me home.

With kidney problems allready you need not do any low carb/no carb diets. These diets are kidney killers, to much protein will lead to ketosis. If you do want to do this type of diet then South Beach is the best you get the protein plus you get vegetables with good carbs that won't hurt you. This diet is very good for diabetics, my wife and I have done it and it really works good.

I heard about that on the scanner last night. They said somebody was outside of Bonterra's having a seizure and refused medical attention.

haha, no there was no seizure but I was with a doctor anyway and she gave me the o.k. to ride home with her. Everything was fine, I just hit the ground when my sugar bottomed. Its happend to me before, just never in a public setting like that.

Mercury, my GF is a diabetic, she just took a shot while I was typing this, she did that once, she took her meds and we had planned to go eat, but we just dosed off and like 20 mins later she was pale, sweaty incoherrent. It was the scariest thing I have ever seen, he sugar had dropped to 30 some. I rushed her home and her pops and I made her drink a half gallon of orange juice and eat like three sandwhichs, so be carefule with that stuff man. She doesnt drink at all, Im scared to death to let her have a sniff.

Nah. 74 is actually great man. Low is like below 60. You probably dropped the night before though and were still a little woozy. I left work one day about 3 pm, didn't even remember leaving. Next thing you know it's 10:30 and my girlfriend and her mom are sitting on my bed forcing cookies down my throat. I've got Mt Dew spilled all over me. They were trying to get me to snap out of a low blood sugar attack. They had checked it about an hour before I even remember anything and it was 34. I made it home, stipped down at the front door, and went to bed. It can be scary.

Dang guys becareful.
I've had a few in my family who have had serious problems with diabetes. On both sides of my family mom and dads. I myself so far am ok. How i wonder some times.
But be careful and keep it checked. Mine bottomed out on me one time while at the doc's office. Had fasting blood work done and at the time, had just lost some weight, and actually had the time to workout regularly.
Went to the doc to do the blood work. The woman who ran the glucose come outside and ask me if i felt ok. I said yeah just feel a little weak and tired.
But i had been working night shift, so i thought it was just normal being tired and weak, cause i hadn't slept or ate. She said your fasting glucose level is 40 and we have to get it up, we can't let you leave here alone like that, it's dangerous. They made me drink a lot of juice and give me some stuff to up it, and i had to have it checked several times for the next few days.
To this day they still have no idea. Other than it was where i had lost some weight and was working out more regularly.
My son's bottom's out on him some. The doctor had told him to try to keep candy around or some of those chewable glucose tablets.
It's scary and i can tell when my son's drops. He gets the same reactions you all have described.

Re: Well I made an [censored] out of myself

Yeah fellas, I think Im just gonna take it easy and just eat freely, I wasnt really dieting, just exercised so much lately that my stomach has shrunk and I havent been able to eat as much but I have definietly eaten more meat than veggies and other stuff that I need to be eating.

Nola, I wouldnt let her drink man, 99 out of 100 times, it doesnt effect me, I can put beer away with the best of them but there is always that 1 time that its just not worth it.

Ironlung youre probably right man, I woke up yesterday morning and didnt feel all that good to begin with. I didnt have anything to do the whole day so I worked out for quite a while and then I ate lunch and didnt think anything about it. By the time dinner came around I was feelin real tired, like I could have just went to bed and skipped dinner to be honest. Obviously that was a sign, thinking back on it.

Also just mentioning Bonterra makes me crave the Crab stuffed Portabella. So good. To bad I gotta settle for a bowl of Ramen noodles right now here at work though.
